The arena is large and the ground is covered in soft dirt. There is a starting area for the horse and rider, and then the gate for the cows that will be let into the pen. Here, outdoor competitions such as cutting, calf roping, team roping, barrel racing, tie down roping, and steer wrestling take place. Sometimes, there is a famous, wild horse race held.
